Hooray! It’s *finally* December which means… Summer (yes!) and more importantly, it is now socially acceptable to get excited about all things Christmas (though I must confess our house has been Christmased for a couple of weeks already – I couldn’t help it!). Around this time last year I had the joy of shooting a group of long-time lady friends. As a point of difference, I wanted to create a really fun and festive theme for the shoot to celebrate the most wonderful time of year. Of course I turned to my go-to styling guru Jessie from Mama of a Lion Boy to help bring the vision to life. We wanted the shoot to foster a sense of sophistication (we are ladies after all!) but also feel very relaxed by engaging with the rustic elements of the Pine Forest setting. Jessie opted for an un-cluttered and simplistic table setting that featured foraged greenery, copper string lights, and timber platters adorned with locally sourced cheese and produce. The star of the show was a glorious semi-naked coconut and vanilla bean cake with vanilla butter icing and toasted maple coconut flakes that served at the table centre piece. A woman of many talents, Jessie also whipped the cake up for the shoot as well as styling. To add to the theme of the shoot, local florist Emma Flint made a number of beautiful headpieces and floral accessories that the girls’ adorned which added a dynamic element to our picnic vignette.
Make sure you head to Jessie’s post about the shoot and read her go-to tips for planning and styling an event (and table!). The beautiful copper string lights featured are available from Target for a bargain at $10. You’re welcome ;)
